Haiti's Children

In the event of the great tragedy in Haiti I've been worried and praying for the children. The children who have lost their parents, the children who have been separated from their parents and are searching or simply waiting in refugee camps. For children who were evacuated as "orphans", but might not be orphans and of course for the children who will fall prey to people with evil desires. I read this article on a friend's blog and I think it highlights what is probably going on in Haiti so well. Island of the Lost Children I also ran across this video that I didn't even know was made! I love the work that Love146 is doing. The ideas they have to educate people to prevent slavery and the way they are housing and caring for the girls that have been rescued. Enjoy!

Why do lattes always get the shaft?

I heard it again yesterday. The woman on the radio was challenging people to give $50 to help people in Haiti and her reasoning was "it's easy for working people to find $50 in their budget. Just give up a few lattes." I am not trying to downplay the tragedy in Haiti or the needs of it's people right now. but why, oh why must the latte always take the fall? Why can we not say "give up the morning newspaper for a month." or "give up eating lunch out for a week."? I think all baristas, cafes and Starbucks should mount a marketing campaign to combat the smear campaign that lattes take whenever someone is talking about trimming their budget. It's just not fair! (and I don't really drink them!)

The Franklin Fountain

A good friend of mine saw this place on TV and suggested it knowing I was going to Philly this week. The Franklin Fountain . It's a really cool old fashion soda shop. The servers were wearing broaches and old fashion looking doilies as hair nets. They had all kinds of old candies, gum and bottled sodas(!). On a cold and rainy night Grant and I made our way there and it was yummy.... it was also the most I've ever paid for ice cream ;-)

Where does the time go?!

A lot has happened since my last post..and I'll try to sum it up in pictures ;-) Loving our subway stop! Heading to my par-tay Poptart Tuesday! A few of us were talking about Pop tarts one day and we realized that we couldn't remember the last time we had one. So we changed that together. In front of a Christmas tree made out of CD's...oooo Lucy had a birthday! We got up too early Christmas morning.... But this guy provided lots of entertainment! My WHOLE family. First time in a very, very long time we've all been together. My stuff made it to Cincy! We then had to take it across the river and through the woods. New Years in NOLA! (more on that to come) Representing the old hood
