Filling in the scratches: Labor of Love (3 of 3)

Sorry for missing out last week, I just did not have time to post. Posting on Mondays can be difficult because I come off the weekend. Last weekend was a busy one at work and it was antique show weekend. There was no such thing as rest for the weary.





I dont have pictures for my third post of the project, and here is why. You just couldnt see the difference through the shots. Therefore, though it would be fun to go on a "where's waldo" type search for the differences between the photos while at work, I thought better of it. For your sakes. :-)


You remember how the mirror had been...er...scratched? I wanted to find a way to eradicate them and restore my good name. The surface scratches were not huge, but were noticable when you actually started looking at the mirror next to the frame. I searched the internet and found a few possibilities. The one I tried? Toothpaste.




That is right, plain ol' white toothpaste. Beleive it or not, the hardest part about this experiment was finding plain white toothpaste! Even at the dollar store it was all red, blue, green, etc.


I figured, if this didnt work, all I had to do was wash it off. Besides, its going to smell all pepperminty fresh!




The process? Smear the toothpaste over the cracks (small amount, evenly smeared.) Then, let it dry. Once dry, you just buff over it. The smear comes off leaving the small scratches filled in and barely noticable.


Now THAT was an easy fix! (Once I found the toothpaste...)

Glad you posted this as I just found a mirror that needs help with scratches!

And white toothpaste is all I use....weird people that use colors ;-)

I love lace. I love the delicacy with which it presents itself to the world. That being said, I dont really use it very much. I do have some family doilies, and my wedding dress has some lace, but I dont go too crazy. I like to be able to clean things, and not have dust mites clinging to every available piece of cloth (they cling to everything else anyway.) So, I decided to try a painting technique. Why not paint the lace on the object? Easy to clean, lovely design, what could be better? We got this child's vanity in an old attic pick. What's Cookin Wednesday - Sweet Potato & pinto bean tacos

SWEET POTATO AND PINTO BEAN TACOS adapted from thugkitchen.com ....but there is offensive language on the site (and in the recipes) - so you've been warned! 3 cups of cooked pinto beans (about 2-15 ounce cans) 1 teaspoons of coconut or olive oil (Olive oil is what I had) ½ cup veggie broth or water (water....) 2 teaspoons smoked paprika or chili powder (I went chili powder) 2 teaspoons blackstrap molasses (I used what I had in the cabinet) 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar or lemon juice (I have both of these at home usually, went with lemon juice this time around) 2-3 garlic cloves 1 pound of sweet potatoes (this should be about 2 cups when you chop it all up) ½ of a yellow onion 1 teaspoon coconut or olive oil salt to taste soft corn tortillas standard taco toppings that you like to add. A beautiful day for the grid iron

So I'm playing football this "season". Two hand touch, co-ed. The old roomie and his wife are on the team as well as a couple other good friends. It's a fun hour of throwing the pigskin around and going from one end of the shortened field to another. Today we played our "rival" team (it's a past rivalry, we're too early into the season for real rivals yet). It's a fun team - they like to trash talk, in good fun. So was playing "hiker" (I know it has an official name - the person that hikes the ball to the QB, but this is the one I choose!). As soon as I walked up to the line of scrimmage I started ribbing the rusher (I can't be a part of the play at all after hiking and I told him that I was hoping he wouldn't run into my elbow or anything).
